GIC’s construction took place adjacent to the existing Hlanikahle / Kwa-Guqa townships in Emalahleni, where many informal structures were made of steel sheeting, sticks and mud, and a few brick buildings. The informal settlement also had no evidence of services and running water, and most of the dwellings in the settlement used pit latrines for sanitation. GIC is providing a sewerage gravitation network, water distribution network, and the development of streets and stormwater channels to service 322 stands.
